Guided Tours

The Tourist Board, in collaboration with the Association of Tourist Guides of Bolzano, offers a rich programme of guided tours of the city and its surroundings, discovering the main historical and artistic attractions.

Discover Bolzano by walking through the old town center and its little-known districts, visit its churches or the Archaeological Museum where Ötzi, the famous Similaun mummy, is kept. The entire programme of guided tours is included in our "Guided Tours and Excursions" programme, available from April 2021.

Our guided tours are bilingual, just like our town!

A maximum of 15 participants are admitted (unless otherwise stated).

Monday

The historic centre of Bolzano

A tour to discover the most evocative corners of the historic centre, such as Piazza Walther, Piazza delle Erbe, the Portici, Piazza del Grano and the main monumental churches. We will also take a look at the wine tradition of Bolzano, whose vineyards reach as far as the city centre.

  • Start: 10.30 a.m. from the information office
  • Duration: approx. 2 hours
  • Fee: € 8.00; € 4.00 with WinePass; free with Bolzano Guestcard and for children up to 14 years of age

Tuesday

Bolzano among myths and legends (in May, September and October)

The many legends about the city of Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites, and its castles have been handed down from generation to generation. Discover them with us on one of Bolzano's beautiful walks. It won't be easy to stay focused with such a stunning view of the city!

  • Start: 2.30 pm from the information office
  • Duration: approx. 3 hours
  • Fee: € 8.00; € 4.00 with Wine-Pass; free for children up to 14 years of age
  • Route: 6-7 km - hi 150 m
  • Comfortable shoes are recommended
  • Reservation required within 12 pm on the day of the event

The Water Trails (in June, July and August)

Bolzano is crossed by three streams: the Talvera river, which flows into the Isarco river, which in turn flows into the Adige. The Talvera historically marked the division of today's centre from the countryside, now the 'new' part of the city. A stroll through the streets of Bolzano, however, will not only take you past rivers, but also numerous fountains and what the locals call the "Lido", the municipal swimming pool where every summer adults and children can cool off and sunbathe on the large lawns around the pool.

Wednesday

Old Town and South Tyrolean Museum of Archaeology (Ötzi)

Discover the most beautiful corners of the old town and visit the museum which houses the Iceman (Ötzi) and his original belongings.

  • Departure: 2.30 p.m. from the information office.
  • Duration: approx. 1.5 hours + individual tour of the Archeological Museum
  • Fee: € 8,00 + admission to the Archaeological Museum; € 4,00 with WinePass; free with Bolzano Guestcard and for children up to 14 years of age

Thursdays

Don Bosco, Bozen Melting Pop (every 1st Thursday of the month from May to October)

Don Bosco welcomes and condenses different architectural aspects and lifestyles. The neighbourhood is home to the ruins of the Santa Maria in Augia convent, first attested in 1166, and the Casa Semirurale, one of the last semi-rural houses built by the fascist regime in the mid-1930s. Among modern art installations and part of the wall of the former Transit Lager, we find 'Italian' style bars and shops, markets and promenades along the Eisack River. A visit to Don Bosco is a real time-travel through the district and the history of Bolzano.

The Other Bolzano (every 2nd Thursday of the month from May to October)

A journey through the secrets of the most striking monuments, buildings and squares of Bolzano between the two world wars: from Piazza Vittoria to the Corpo d'Armata, from the former Casa del Fascio to the Palace of Justice and the church of Cristo Re.

  • Start: 10.30 a.m. in front of the Victory Monument (Talvera-bridge side)
  • Duration: approx. 2 hours
  • Fee: € 8.00; € 4.00 with Wine-Pass; free for children up to 14 years of age
  • Reservation required within 6 p.m. on the previous day

Bolzano's industrial area, the technological district (every 3rd Thursday of the month from May to October)

The city of tomorrow is being built in South Bolzano. A significant overview of the most representative locations of innovation and sustainability, such as Technoalpin, Salewa, the Fair, the H2 centre and Alperia Tower, is offered from the terrace of the Sheraton Hotel, first stop on this itinerary. The tour continues among the colourful murals of Via Buozzi and ends with a visit to the NOI Techpark, a former aluminium production plant redeveloped and transformed in 2017 into a real science and technology park.

  • Departure: 10.30 am in front of the Sheraton Hotel
  • Duration: approx. 2 hours

The Benedictine Abbey of Muri-Gries and the Old Parish Church of Gries (every 4th Thursday of the month from May to October)

Thanks to the availability of the Benedictine fathers of Muri-Gries, it will be possible to visit parts of the monastery and the Baroque abbey church dedicated to St Augustine and masterfully frescoed by Martin Knoller, as well as the old parish church which houses the precious wooden casket and door altar by Michael Pacher, carved between 1471 and 1475 and a remarkable wooden Romanesque crucifix of 1200.

Il Colle, the terrace above Bolzano (29 July and 30 September)

Il Colle means tranquility and nature. Large forests and a beautiful mountain landscape with many opportunities of walking; all this just a few minutes from the city. The ride in the world's oldest cable car, the wooden viewing tower and the mountain air will make this a memorable experience. And to end on a high note, a slice of cake at Albergo Colle!

  • Start: 2.30 p.m. at the valley station of the Colle cable car
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Fee: € 12.00 + cable car ticket; € 6.00 for children 6-14 years; free for children up to 5 years of age
  • Route: approx. 4 km-1.5 hrs. Difficulty: easy
  • Reservation required within 12 p.m. on the same day

Bacchus Urbanus

A particular urban trekking along routes through the production areas of the two local wines of Bolzano, St. Magdalena and Lagrein, with a visit and commented tasting at the following wine cellars producing this precious nectar:

Bolzano by ... evening (18 June, 23 July and 20 August)

An evening tour of the old town centre including Piazza Walther, Piazza delle Erbe, the arcades and Piazza del Grano.

  • Departure: 7 p.m. from Walther Square (at the statue)
  • Duration: approx. 1.5 hours
  • Fee: € 8.00; € 4.00 with Wine-Pass; free with Bolzano Card and for children up to 14 years of age
  • Reservation of the participation and payment are required within 12 p.m. on the day of the visit.

Cheers to the beer of Bolzano! (25 June, 30 July and 27 August)

The tour leads through the streets and squares of the old town and continues with a visit to one of Bolzano's craft breweries. Each brewery has its own beer, its own special recipe and its own ritual. Discover with us the values that turn breweries into a meeting place and conviviality and let Bolzano's master brewers guide you through the tasting of different types of beer.
