Guided Tours

The Tourist Board, in collaboration with the Association of Tourist Guides of Bolzano, offers a rich programme of guided tours of the city and its surroundings, discovering the main historical and artistic attractions.

Discover Bolzano by walking through the old town center and its little-known districts, visit its churches or the Archaeological Museum where Ötzi, the famous Similaun mummy, is kept. The entire programme of the guided tours during the Christmas Market is included in the brochure in Italian and German language, available from end November 2021.

Guided tours

The historic centre of Bolzano

A tour to discover the most evocative corners of the historic centre, such as Piazza Walther, Piazza delle Erbe, the Portici, Piazza del Grano and the main monumental churches; we will also focus on Bolzano's wine tradition, whose vineyards reach as far as the city centre.

NEW - The historic city centre of Bolzano - 3 LANGUAGES

A classic tour of the city centre to discover the most characteristic and interesting corners of the old town such as Piazza Walther, Piazza delle Erbe, the arcades, Piazza del Grano and the main monumental churches. Tours will be available in three languages, Italian, German or English, at the visitor's choice.

Historical centre's prestigious palaces

An itinerary to discover the artistic treasures of important palaces in the old town centre; the Provincial Council building, Palazzo Menz, Palazzo Mercantile with its cellars and Hall of Honour will be visited by rotation.

The historic centre and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology (Ötzi)

Itinerary to discover the most picturesque corners of the old town with an individual visit to the museum which houses the Iceman (Ötzi) with his original trousseau.

  • Every Wednesday of the month from April 5th to October 25th
  • Duration: approx. 1 ½ hours + museum visit

Underground Bolzano (watch VIDEO)

A tour at the discovery of fascinating underground rooms in the historic centre of Bolzano, such as the cathedral crypt, the archaeological excavations in the Hannah Arendt School, the cellars of the Mercantile Palace and the interesting underground rooms of some of the shops and bars in the arcades; the tour will end with a toast in the Enovit Wine Shop

  • Every Thursday of the month from 6 April to 26 October
  • Duration: approx. 3 hours

Benedictine Abbey of Muri-Gries

Thanks to the availability of the Benedictine fathers of Muri-Gries, it will be possible to access parts of the convent and visit both the baroque abbey church dedicated to St Augustine and masterfully frescoed by Martin Knoller, and the old parish church, which houses the precious wooden casket and door altar by Michael Pacher, carved between 1471 and 1475, and a remarkable wooden Romanesque crucifix from 1200.

  • Every third Tuesday of the month (except August bank holiday) from 18 April until 17 October

Speck Safari: Discovering Speck Alto Adige PGI

An unmissable opportunity to discover the historical centre of Bolzano and one of the most typical products of the region: Speck Alto Adige PGI. The guided tour of the historical centre, proposed in collaboration with the Consorzio Tutela Speck Alto Adige, is combined with a tasting of Speck Alto Adige IGP, accompanied by a good glass of wine in a traditional tavern, where you can learn about the history, production phases and guidelines of this South Tyrolean speciality.

  • When: every Friday in April (except 7.04), May, September and October 2023
  • Departure: 3 p.m. from the Infopoint in Piazza del Grano - Kornplatz 11

Bacchus Urbanus

A special urban trek along routes through the production areas of Bolzano's two local wines, St. Magdalener and Lagrein, with a visit and commented tasting at the following wine cellars producing the prized nectar.
