Events: Theatre, Film and Music Festivals
25 February 2026
On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, the South Tyrolean Theatre Association invites audiences on 16 and 17 May 2026 to a truly special event: a major theatre festival at the Bolzano Fair. Under the motto "Akt 75 – many voices of all generations in one act", the stage will be set for an intergenerational and diverse celebration of theatre. A lively, colourful and collective theatrical celebration of the generations that highlights the power of theatre to unite, move and inspire. The STV's member theatres guarantee a rich variety of performances – from children's and youth theatre to inclusive theatre, senior theatre, dance theatre and puppet theatre, as well as productions for adult audiences. There will also be children's programmes, catering, games, entertainment and opportunities for social exchange. A small specialised fair and an exhibition entirely dedicated to 75 years of theatre history will complete the programme.
The International Animation Film Festival Bolzano Animated Movie Days Bozen, which will take place in Bolzano for the first time from 4 to 7 June, is aimed at a diverse audience of all ages: children, young people, adults, seniors, schools and families. It aims to promote film culture, visual literacy and creativity through the screening of short films and animated movies from around the world, meetings with illustrators and creative workshops open to schools and families. The festival will be held in public spaces, cinemas and cultural centres and aims to become an annual event. It will also host the first International Animated Short Film Competition of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in which primary and secondary schools will participate, with an international jury selecting the awards. The festival seeks to offer new opportunities to young South Tyrolean talents by providing networking spaces with directors, production companies and animation studios from across the globe.
The final major event that will close the month of June in style is the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige, which, from 26 June to 5 July, will transform the city and the entire region into a vibrant landscape shaped by the sounds of contemporary jazz. National and international stars, as well as emerging talents, will perform at various venues across the city from morning to evening, as well as in unusual locations far from traditional concert halls – not only in the squares of towns across the province, but also outdoors in the mountains, in alpine huts, among lakes and clearings, or even in industrial halls. Artists will fill both urban spaces and the spectacular natural scenery of South Tyrol with music, creating a stage where sound and landscape merge to produce special encounters and spaces where the unexpected can happen. More than fifty concerts – most of them free of charge – are scheduled, featuring experimental, genre-crossing projects, sometimes developed specifically for the festival, which since 1982 has stood for artistic curiosity and bold programming beyond the mainstream.
